Thats quite a good start to get out to 6.5Km.
I presume you do not have any signal strength measuring ability at that
frequency. Is is fully line of sight ?
I guess this all emphasises the difficulty of getting an amateur system up and
running. If someone was a few KM off your line of sight path they may well not
have been able to copy your signal.
My club has a site available that would be marvelous to cover all the south
west of Sydney. The distance to the horizon is about 100 Km.
It should be possible to work backwards and calculate the power required
at the transmitting site presuming a short feedline, say three metres, an
antenna that would give equal coverage of 90 deg. To provide a workable signal
from an antenna at say 80Km similar to Mark's antenna.
The big number missing here is the receiver sensitivity. Anyone know what
that is for typical equipment ?
Perhaps someone with better maths than mine can come up with the answer.
What polarisation is used ?
A question; If they are spread spectrum, how come they have channels ?
Or are they just logical channels ?
