Hi Mark and readers,
We do plenty of yapping, we're HAMS after all! (;->)
Unfortunately, due to certain limitations including a lack of others to
QSO with I cannot set up a microwave station, but do all that on a wired
Internet connection. Yeah, not ham radio but I never claimed it was.
You're a lucky guy to have friends with interest within range while most
do not. Still you are one of those keeping microwaves alive and
experimenting with new modes of communications, therefor my hat's off to
you.
One question though. As I understand "Wi-Fi" is a Sony trademark, so why
is everybody calling wireless LAN by that name? Oh, I know, every vacuum
cleaner is a Hoover, every refrigerator a Frigidare, etc. So why then
isn't every microwave oven a Radar Range? (Amana) (;->) Hmmm, that
reminds me, I wonder what would happen if you used the magnetron to
produce a 500W 2.4GHz signal?
Oh let's not hear any squab for dinner jokes!
As for those who argue "It's not ham radio." all I have to say is "That
depends." It depends on whether or not you're using Amateur frequencies
and are properly licensed. After all we DO have lots of microwave
spectrum but unfortunately it's dead for the most part, only comes alive
during contests for the most part and still just barely.
Keep up the good work, we need more like you! Hmmm, that reminds me that
I should put it in gear and get down to work on the PTT switch I need to
get my sound card interface up and running. I have this rather nefarious
plan to chase the FMers off the weak signal portion of 2M with SSTV among
other things. (;->)
