I think most of us know that packet isn't secure - it leaks like a sieve.
Whatever we write gets all over the place. Take this for example about me,
from Bob, which came my way:

Bob:-

>Thanks for that message ...

>I put him in NOTFROM but Winpack does
>not seem to have done anything about it.

("Him" being me of course).

Firstly Bob, the last time I wrote personally to you
was a polite message on 6 Jan 2006. Here's a clip:

Quote:

>You've been on packet many years Bob and in the hobby for many more.

>I don't want to sound patronising, but I've no doubt that you've put
>more into the hobby than you've taken out, and you have a sharp mind
>and lively spirit, with an impish sense of humour.

>Those are qualities which I and others find endearing. If I live as
>long as you and am half as sharp and active as you are, I'll consider
>I've had a very good shake of the dice indeed.

>However, that doesn't give you carte blanche to make defamatory
>statements unless you can support them. I've written to you
>personally as I didn't want to put out an adversarial bull on packet.

End quote.

From comments later it was clear that you received the message, but you
neither provided proof to support your defamatory statements, nor did
you apologise.

I was a bit sad about that and thought it was disingenuous. I've never
contacted Bob personally since, so he need have no worries that he'll
receive any unwelcome personal mail from me to pester him. He won't.

Despite being asked to not make combative and defamatory statements on
here, which is inconsistent with your stated aims of "good manners",
you've gone right ahead and done it time and time again.

I'm not sure what you expect to gain from that.

As to NOT FROM in Winpack, I'm not sure what you want it to do that you
can't do yourself. Unless you've put my callsign in your Selection List
Editor as someone whose bulls you want to automatically download when you
run a BBS Session, you ought not to receive any of my bulls.

The only way you can get them is to search through the BBS bulletin list
and purposely select mine to download - I assume that's what you do. What
you seem to want is for my bulls disappear from the list on the BBS to
protect you from the temptation to download them.

A sort of "child-proof lock" or "Parental Control", like on internet.

When the late Roger, G4IDE, wrote Winpack I doubt he envisaged a situation
whereby anyone would be unable to overcome a compulsion to download bulls
from people they dislike intensely, on topics about which they don't wish
to read.

I think he assumed that as free spirits we could look after that
ourselves.

I wonder if you've inadvertently put me in your Selection Editor List as
someone whose bulls you actually *DO* wish to download?

I say that because when you returned from packet after a few days off at
your former school's Centenary celebrations, the first thing you did was
to comment on how many bulls I'd sent in your absence, and the total size.
(which you overstated).

It would have been nice to have heard something about the history of your
school - 100 years goes back to before WW1 - almost back to Federation.

I'm not sure why you'd want to download and check out all my bulls as your
first priority, unless you've got Winpack set up to do it for you. If so,
here's what to do to stop it:

In Winpack, go to "File" (top LH corner).
Go down to "Selection List Editor".
Have a look if you've got my callsign in "FROM".
If so, delete it.
Click OK and Winpack will stop downloading my bulls for you.
Problem solved.

Hope that helps.

Sent with goodwill, and without rancour.

Best wishes
