Hi Bob and others.

If it makes you feel better .... A niece of mine is the accounts manager
for a large chain of stores in Australia, and they are still running a DOS
based accounting system including as she puts it "green screens and white
or black writing".

The reasons, she explained, are that "none of the windows accounting
packages are reliable enough to be considered safe for keeping business
accounts". They even have a DOS based P.O.S. system which is "sort of"
interfaced into the accounting package.

I don't know any more about it than that so can't answer questions....

I have been using windows 7 here for a while now and I still think it is a
"dumbed" down system when compared with earlier versions like XP. It is
probably about time that Microsoft stopped playing to the "lowest common
denominator in the intelligence stakes" and put back a lot of the stuff
that made operating systems useful.

As long as Linux has all its various flavours I don't think it will ever
be a serious contender in the operating system stakes. I have three
versions of it here, one just to cope with amateur radio applications.
What a short sighted geeky attitude to computing this multiple flavours
represents...
