Hello Sten ZS6CFC and I hope Tony is still reading his thread...
I think Sten, Tony wanted suggestions for a speaker for 25 nights
after "volunteering" to helpout a sick ham. What you suggest is
a course rather then a lecture, but it could be a lecture to see
just how many might be interested in languages, such you suggested
Spanish. And then what other languages anyone might think too!
I am waiting now for Tony to post his ideas, gained from his
first posting to packet about getting speakers?
I would invite the area representative to the National Ham Radio
Organization to give a speech ...followed perhaps by other reps
that are in the various departments of the said National Organization.
That might fill a few nights.
After that ... perhaps a Manufacturer or as many as I could get
to perhaps speak on their products, and also get members to give
them postivie feedback at the end..when there is always a question
and answer time. Some of these manufacturers and stores if they
come to speak, do sometimes donate equipment for a door prize to
help the clubs.
After that there is always the greatest base for the hobby, the
people who despite being asked over and over the same question
are always there to help ... They make their own little gizmos
and are always there for everone ..... Who is bored...please
go home! Good place for you.... That type of ham that has
that attitude to new people asking questions isn't an asset
but a bad apple in the pile trying to get going. Enough said.
After saying all that...I think I can name enough hams in this
area 25miles radius from me that would not only fill Tony's
25 nights at the clubhouse but perhaps the year of 2008
fast approaching.
Anyhow ... Tony where ever you are... How about a report on
how you are making out?
