Hi Bob and all,
I doubt your birds are any smarter than ours, probably dumber than dog
poo if they need visibility markers on power lines to avoid flying into
them. No Bob, they're for pilots, the markers are where lines cross glide
paths near airports, municipal usually where light planes come in low
over fairly long paths unlike large commercial jets that lose altitude
quickly very near the end of the runway. Birds won't go anywhere near
lines over roughly 2400V phase to ground because the electrostatic field
ruffles their feathers, you'll never see them perched on high lines.
As for the radio towers, they actually DO kill birds in flight, BUT we're
talking megawatts here, not normal broadcast power. Greenies tend to go
way overboard, bash a finger with a hammer and they want to amputate the
arm, the one that did the bashing! I found the bit about the hams more
than simply amusing, I forgot where it originated but it's linked to from
various ham radio on line forums. The bit about CB was hilarious, "they
only use 4 watts" had me rolling on the floor. Whomever wrote it doesn't
know poo about CB (or much of anything for that matter) and the
multi-kilowatt amplifiers in the channel six "Super Bowl" or the fact the
average ham uses < 100W.
No, I'm not fond of drinking bird poo either but it's good for washing
clothes. Remember the rain barrells? Darn, what I don't remember is the
brand of laundry detergent that used to advertize "rainwater soft and
fresh" that obviously overlooked the mosquito larvae in the rain barrell.
Greenies are funny... if like me you have a sick sense of humor.
