We had another earthquake here yesterday in this state, nearly 6 on the
Richter. No damage reported.
Quakes are quite common here. I have experienced two or three here in
Albany, mostly in the middle of the night with no damage done. Boulder on
the Eastern Goldfields had a large one a year or two ago which led to the
demolition of a historic building which was badly damaged. It is in the
history books of course that Meckering was completely demolished just over
40 years ago (pictures on the website). Most of the quakes are in
unoccupied regions and so no damage is reported.
This latest was about 450 km north of Carnarvon. Not much chance of damage
up there; there's nothing much there to damage except the anthills.
There was a funny story about a man in Kalgoorlie who came out one morning
to find that his backyard dunny had disappeared down a big hole in the
ground. Parts of that city have tunnels - old mine workking underneath and
a collapse can cause a problem on the surfac. Fortunately this sodes no
happen as a general occurrence. The disappearing dunny has been a one off
so far.Lucky he was not sitting on it.
