Siberia to Ukraine is a bit of a haul but that's where Alah (yeah, that's 
her name) is from. Speaking of the old Soviet system, one day she cracked 
me up. She had some sort of dispute with the plant manager I was ignoring 
but the windup caught my attention. She said "In Soviet Union for good 
work I got gold star." His reply was "In America you get to keep your 
job."

Budding geniuses? I'll never forget the HS graduate behind the counter of 
a convenience store who couldn't make change without the cash register 
readout. Never mind simple arithmatic, I had to teach her how to count!
