Having been a ham since 1948, I find it very disappointing that ordinary
contacts between hams has fallen to its lowest ever!
This particularly on 144 repeaters, where once they were going all day.
In our area there are some 6 repeaters,I can reach plus some 438 meg ones.
Whereas once some 100 different stations could be logged using them, now
most can go week after week with no one on them at all. Two repeaters get
a once a week use of WIA broadcast and a club net. But that's it.
Also HF is very quiet except for contests and the few who chase DX, just
for the contact, but don't ham it up, with a long conversation. Also I am
one of the last packeteers that download BBS headers every day.
Also Ecolink although having many with their call signs up there, 90% of
VK2's do not reply to a call.
So I ask, has ham radio really had it. Hams should remember the old adage
of "use it or loose it" These frequencies are very valuable!
