Hi Harry and readers,
The Gulf of Mexico was not formed by an impact crater. Rather the impact
happened just off the coast of South America and the ripples formed are
visible in the landscape. This is how it was discovered, by satellite
imaging.
FYI, a much larger crater is visible in Quebec, Canada and there are many
around the world, quite surprisingly large and easily mistaken for other
features.
