Hello Pol Atwan,
This letter forwarded with permission granted by the Federation Council
and Capt. Jean Luc Picard currently assigned to Enterprise.
Greetings and felicitations!
(Last time such a salutation was received from Gothos Kirk encountered a
petulant brat.)
Your letter of introduction has come to my attention and as temporary
ambassador to the Delta quadrant I bring you greetings and good will. Now
wonder you had problems receiving and understanding messages relayed by
the subspace array, the Caretaker gave Captain Janeway of the Voyager
considerable difficulty and sent them off into your quadrant of the
galaxy. During an altercation the array was severely damaged and due to
it's unstable and unpredictable nature no attempts at repair will be
made, it has been abandoned.
Yes, we met the Borg and after considerable difficulty with their Prime
directive "We are the Borg, you will be assimilated, resistance is
futile." we finally found a way to defeat them or at least subdue. The
virus you encounterd had no connection to the event, it was merely
secondary to their defeat.
During an unrelated encounter we experienced considerable opposition and
personal agenda from the prototype brother of the artificial life form
crewman aboard our starship, Data. This evil twin brother tried to
organize rebellion and form his own Borg army with intent to conquer but
his plan was thwarted as is the outcome of every episode of Next
Generation.
You have noticed independence among the Borg, they no longer belong to
the Collective. The seed of independent thought was implanted by our
chief engineer Geordie LaForge and when the new Hugh Of One was returned
to the Collective this seed grew and spread among the collective
consiousness making every Borg an independent entity.
The Borg have been a thorn in the side of the Federation, the queen
particularly formidable and they even tried to destroy our home planet
Earth in the Alpha Q quadrant twice. The first time Data put them to
sleep and the second they were defeated with a little help from the
eccentric inventor of warp drive Zephram Cochran. That was our first
contact and it happened to be with those oh so logical and emotionless
Vulcans.
Not to worry about Voyager, as previously mentioned the starship is
captained by a wonderfully cometent lady named Janeway. She is highly
intelligent, strong willed and of solid character, you'll be pleased to
meet her upon Voyager's arrival. the starship like all Federation ones
carries a mixed crew from all over the Alpha quadrant, each individual
particularly suited for the position.
I should also mention that ownership of the Cardassian station DS-9
orbiting Bejor is transferred to the Federation and run by Captain
Sisco and the security officer is a changeling we call Odo. The operators
and crew are what Earthers call "a can of mixed nuts", you should find
them amusing. We have considerable difficulty with those deceitful vedeks
and the others inside the wormhole so be careful who you deal with.
It seems that everybody has trouble with everybody else beginning with
those ever present Romulans but since the Federation was formed and
alliances created old enemies are now friends. Perhaps you will consider
alliance once you have determined our nature for yourselves.
Best wishes,
Captain of the Federation and acting ambassador
Jean Luc Picard
