VK5RY/TPK 1.83b Msg #:1999 Date:16-04-97 Time:15:07Z

Hello Folks, TPK1.83 and the lack of the ability of 7-plussing files was
REALLY driving me insane!
I am using WIN95 here, but shelled out to DOS by using the 'Restart in DOS
Mode' to shell out to DOS for running DOS programs, including TPK..
TPK1.82 would work Okay and 7+ files for transmission Okay.
TPK1.83 would work Okay, but would not 7+ files for Transmission.
Checking out the amount of memory used by 1.83 showed me why the 7+
function would not work! The amount of Free Conventional memory was
LESS THAN 100K.. 7+ function needs more than 100K!
Head Scratching to find out how to get more Conventional Memory was a waste
of time and effort..

However, using the Restart in DOS (from the START BOX) does not appear to
go back to DOS, at least, MEMORY is used by the Stuff in Autoexec and
Config files.

As an experiment, I used the F8 macro when I booted Win95 and then the 6
(Start in Command Mode Only) key.

I should have realised this of course, but there are Traps for the unwary,
or is it lack of knowledge, or just Murphy?

I have my 'T.BAT' file in C:\ directory for firing up TPK1.83 and when I do
a MEM/c check, (whilst in TPK, using the F3 ket to get out) I find that
there is over 211K available to TPK1.83 for the 7+ function.

So, there it is, for what it is worth! I thank all those people throughout
the World who have sent me Tips and Advice, their Input has been
invaluable..

All I hope is, that TPK 1.83 continues to work as well as 1.82 has been
doing since its release..

Bye for now.. Thanks again to all.. 73 de Ron.
