        After months of frustration, I have finally succeeded in installing
the TNT 1.8 packet program. It is a very nice program, but at this stage it
lacks the unproto list. They are working on this , so it is only a matter
of time.
        I am running RedHat 5.2 on a 486DX2-66 with 8 Mb of RAM. I have
also tried RedHat 6.0, but my computer choked on the graphics (not enough
memory).
        If you would like to try TNT 1.8 read on, and I will tell you how
to install it. TNT 1.8 DOES NOT NEED THE AX25-UTILS.
I use it with a TNC with TF 2.7b firmware. You can also use it with a
KISS-TNC, but then you need the tfkiss driver. (tfkiss-1.0.5.tar.gz or
later)

INSTRUCTIONS

 1 Install the "dialog" package from the CD. Required by "tnt_setup".
        (For RH 5.2 the full name is dialog-0.6-12.i386.rpm)
        (For RH 6.0 the full name is dialog-0.6-14.i386.rpm)

 2 Install TNT as per instructions in the README file.
        2) Type "./configure" to configure TNT.
        3) Type "make" to build TNT.
        4) Type "make install" to install TNT.

 3 Create a directory /var/spool/lock (This directory is supposed to
        be created by "tnt_setup", but it's not)

 4 To be able to start TNT, you have to make a symbolic link:
        /usr/bin/tnt --> /usr/local/bin/tnt
        At the console (as "root") type:
        ln -s ../local/bin/tnt /usr/bin/tnt

 5 To be able to start "tnt_setup", so that you can read the TNT
        Documentation, you have to make a symbolic link:
        /usr/bin/tnt_setup --> /usr/local/sbin/tnt_setup
        At the console (as "root") type:
        ln -s ../local/sbin/tnt_setup /usr/bin/tnt_setup

If everything is ok, you should now be able to start TNT from the console
with the command   tnt
To exit TNT type :exit and press Enter.

To read the TNT Documentation, start "tnt_setup" from the console with the
command tnt_setup and select TNT Documentation.

The rest is up to you. I wish you success.
