Hi Warren,Pete and all interested..

You are quite right, for current ot flow across a river the water must be
conductive but not so conductive that the current flows back internally
instead of around an external cct. That could be why the 1851 test used a
length of the Thames where salt water met fresh water. I just don't know.

Actually, the stuff on the internet refers to current flowing around in
domains, rather like the shaded pole motors we learnt about at school.

Then it gets REALLY comlicated !

Nb I wonder if you could turn water into a semi conductor - maybe not.

I understand your need for secrecy re: the Red October. All I know is that
it was film about a nuclear sub belonging to the USSR. I've never seen it.
Of course, the USSR may be gone but the KGB is still active though
operating under a number of other names....
