Hi Ian and all,

Oh I'm not saying Pete WBZ isn't smart but he seems just a bit
misinformed. I haven't a clue where the pure water notion came from only
that it's wrong since the fluid must be conductive and water is not or
water cooled high power transmitting tubes would be impossible. That
water must be pure to withstand all those kilovolts.

Only the caterpillar drive was abandoned because it's very inefficient,
the engine driving the generator would better serve driving the ship. FYI
large ships are often Diesel-electric like railroad locomotives because
of the fine and often computerized control an electric transmission
offers but it's quite efficient where the MHD drive is not and also BTW
rather noisy so again Red October departs from reality.
