The cheapest choke balun I ever used was to bury the coaxial cable from
the aerial/antenna. No external (unbalanced) radio energy gets past the
lawn!

Note; I needed to run the coaxial cables in such a way as to not
accidentally spike or damage when gardening.

It was the best way to run the cables for me and the cheapest way.

Oh, yes the aerials worked. I made several contacts in Australia and New
Zealand on eighty metres. The aerial was a trap dipole, a half wave
vertical and a quarter wave for 160.
