That is not my experience....
How many times have you connected one car with a completely flat battery, to
another with a fully charged battery with the intention of jump starting one
from the other. The process of connecting them, if done with the correct
polarity will cause barely a spark. The voltage of a flat battery also quickly
rises, with very little flow of current, upon initial connection.

There are so many connections and cables between car and caravan that I doubt
that more than 1/2 an amp flows. Certainly a lot of distance has to be covered
in order to fully charge a battery installed in a caravan. Also notice how dim
the road lights are on caravans, due to the voltage drop. To charge a caravan
battery on the move, I put the battery in my boot - thus eliminating much of
the resistance.
