The SCR522 I used didn't have acorn valves, it used 7 pin
miniatures in the receiver, type 9001. The transmitter used FAT
acorns (I suppose they could have been called "squash") type 832.
955 were used in radar altimeters, and "tail end charlie", as
well in the magnesium cased IFF that were never used but a few
reached the surplus marked with igniters still in place. These
three units worked in the 400 MHz range. There was a test
oscillator (besides the Measurements model 80) with a 955 though
I don't remember ever seeing a complete unit, just lots of pieces
of plastic with coil, capacitor, and 955 socket in surplus.
