Hello coil makers,

  Any ferrite or powdered iron core placed in or near an solenoid coil
will raise the inductance. The higher the permability of the core, the
greater the inductance increase. A copper or brass core will lower the
inductance and the Q. A brass core will lower the Q more than a copper
core.
