I have a query about making variable inductances.

What I'm curious to know is this:

- Wind a coil on (for example) a 20mm former.

- Now what would happen if you inserted a core of *smaller* diameter
into the former which is (for example) on 5mm in diameter.

Would the small diameter of the core be effective or partially effective ?

I suspect it would be partially effective but at the time of writing I
have not done any tests.

I will do some tests shortly but would welcome anyone's practical
experience before I get the bits ready for testing.
