Hi Dick,

It means the output will be something between the two, probably with lots of
harmonics from the switching. 

The least satisfactory type of load to drive from such an invertor would be a
standard transformer, as used in a typical linear type PSU. Much less likely
to suffer problemsw will be a switch mode power supply, because these rectify
the and smooth the mains first, then feed the DC output into another invertor.
