True. I haven't got as far as you yet Murray but I have not yet obtained
a working rig. I have had to fix or build them all Hi. This is the
technically difficult way of doing it. On the other hand, with all those
flash  new transceivers out there and the easy licence test you can get
away without knowing hardly anything about radio/electronics. 

Each ham to his own preference. I like rigs with easily removable
covers. Others will like a rig that needs nothing done other than being
wired to a PSU and antenna, both of which were bought ready-made.   

Of course, you then need the money...

The Southland Times does not pay its paper runners very much.
