Hi John and readers,
I tried that antenna array some years ago and had nothing but trouble
from the start. All but the longest interacted with each other which made
initial tuning one hair pulling adventure. Once I managed that I found
any small change brought about by wind in particular disrupting the
spacing by a tiny bit upset the apple cart all over again. Fed up I
fanned them out making the classic fan dipole, problem solved.
I wonder if you or anyone else had similar problems or maybe I was doing
something wrong. No, the ends were securely fastened to fixed objects, no
particular swaying or bobbing with the coax also firmly supported from
the roof. The nest was also spaced with 4" ladder line insulators
securely tied off so they couldn't move one bit so frankly I have no idea
why things got so messed up with so little and no obvious movement or
change in physical configuration.
It's a great idea, just didn't work for me and I don't know why dispite
many years of antenna experience.
