Hi Bob, Patrick and readers,

Talk about confusion, I'll say so! Just a point worth mentioning, the 
normal cruising RPM is about 1700 for an American car so 2000 is normal 
for a high speed road. I don't know if you're driving something unusual 
or you're confusing MPH with KPH, 80KPH = 60MPH, only %MPH lower than the 
speed limit on a linited access highway. Oops, make that a 5, that darn 
shift key again.

Considering the engine RPM to be 2000 the normal drive ratio would spin 
the alternator at 8000 so it's spinning it's little head off. Oh, if you 
have to drive that fast to charge the battery one or more diodes went 
south on you.
