Hi Jerry and readers,
I haven't seen the original bull you're commenting on but from what I
gather you're writing about using threaded rod for an antenna element.
Bad idea. It's much simpler and cheaper (safer, less likely to cut
yourself) to use rod stock and thread the end using the appropriate die.
BIG hint here! When selecting the rod there's a trick to cutting threads.
Measure the hole it's to go into with a tap gague, you now have diameter
and pitch. Select a rod of the next larger diameter and cut the threads
as measured. Those unfamiliar with threads and taps overlook the fact
they're removing metal, reducing the diameter.
