Hello again

Well , here in South Africa - must be about 5 years back or
so, there where little boxes - called " Battery Buddy"
available on the marked for a reasonable price. They are
about the size of...say 3 cigarrette packs and are not for
boats and diesel use. They where fitted close to the battery
and go directly to the positive connection. They are really
crow bar circuit breakers monitoring the battery voltage and
where set to disconnect all (!) when battery volts are
and/or where going low. Like left headlights on or just some
appliance. They work very well , I've got one in my vehicle
as well and they prevent deep discharge, like forgotten
headlights. Which , by the push of a button there is usually
enough juice keft to start the car.
Sorry , I havent seen these gadgets again for years.

Anyway , I carry a second battery , same sort , charged with
blocking diodes - but receiving external help when parked
home - and a set of copper jumper cables ( have seen the
aluminium kind flare up)

The gadgets from socket lighter to socket lighter are
usually only regular wires with some led's . The supplying
car MUST run and usually 10 mins ore so are enough to
restore a battery to beeing able to start. ( a warm engine
,,,say after shopping and left the headlights on ) They
would need some hours to help you with a dead battery at
minus 15 deg c or so.

In my opinion whats needed is :(I have given a hint to some
Ham who makes some similar thingies for beefing up batts
voltage for ham-radio...but maybe was misunderstood.)

We need a cable from Cigar-lighter socket to socket , better
the feeding and other side with clamps as well. Which has a
little chopper inside which will deliver , say 15 volts
current limited at say 5 amps. Which will go down on the
delivering side to say 6 volts.
Which is foolproof , short resistant and safegurded in any
way. It would help you even with flat batteries and small
nicads to get some starting juce in your car.
Thats still missing on the market . But most may be not
proficient enough to trust to use em' ( soory this ones for
women!)...Maybe not cheap. But helpfull in any situation ,
even 24 Volts truck systems?...Planes on a forlorn island ,
boats...etc.

Have fun supercharging , fellas...
