Only recently I had a conversation with a friend who comes from Tahiti.
He does have a much darker colour of skin than I have.
Yes! People with darker skin can suffer from sunburn, however, such a
nasty, and indeed dangerous, result is nowhere near as likely as is the
case with us whiter skinned people.
Whilst working in the tropics for a period I once set out to obtain an
overall tan.
I did achieve such a tan, however, along the way I became badly sunburnt
in the areas of my lower abdomen and upper thighs.
This situation was most painful and inconvenient.
Where skin had lifted as a result of blisters it later filled with water
whilst having a shower. This latter happening was most inconvenient.
Following that experience I have tried to make sure that I do not expose
myself (Hugh ??) to EXCESSIVE SUNLIGHT.
Sometimes I might mot realise that I have overdone it, especially due to
the fact that I have never been inclined to wear a hat.
Only recently I had to put up with peeling skin on my scalp. This
condition, together with the fact that I do not have any abundance of hair
on my head, made it look as if I was suffering from an alarming level of
dandruff.
It is apparently true that here in this part of the southern hemisphere
the danger of damage from ultraviolet light is high.
"CARE" with regard to such activities as described is the watchword.
Regards,
Ian
