Hi all, sorry for off-topic, but this is is the only ham related news-group
I receive.
A good friend of mine, IK4BLV a tcpip guru in my area, is seeking for the
sources
of AEA PK87 WA8DED Host, or even better some documentations on how
upgrade that tnc with a kiss eprom. He said that a standard kiss won't work
because the particular hardware of such tnc, so he need to know something
more.
Any answer is welcomed.

A WA8DED host mode eprom for the PK-87 is available from Tucson Amateur
Packet Radio (TAPR) for $12.00 U.S. plus shipping. See
http://www.tapr.org to order.

I *guarantee* it won't conflict :-)
That'll put you in the north texas domain (top 18 bits). The IP
coordinator only owns the lower 14 bits, so 64-255 are available.
Later when the IP coordinator gets back with you (maybe next
year) you can switch to what he gives you. Meantime, have
your "Buds" just put your chosen IP in their tables...
Another good way, is to put on the BBS that you are the new
IP coordinator. That really gets their attention :-)
Third, put a message on KF5MG's station, or WB5CQU's station.
They both are big in IP, and are sure to point you the right way.

For those of us that run Linux and BSD systems we'll probably be running
it long before that. Can't speak for the NOS folks though, but somebody
will probably add in IPv6 support soon to keep it alive and compatible
with the rest of the world once sites start showing up.

(Well, actually it's closer to 4 years, but anyway...)
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm sure there are a few other people on the list
who don't know this:
Is there a "transition date" for the internet in place? (i.e. A date our
gateways will have to speak IPv6 regardless of amprnet)
Has anyone started working on a version of NET/NOS that supports IPv6?
Do any of the free *nixs (Linux, FreeBSD, etc.) support IPv6? (or are
people
working on it yet)
I haven't really looked at what IPv6 says, so maybe I'm misunderstanding
it.. If
some of my question don't make any sense, that's probably why...
If the software to do this is available by 1999 or 2000, I don't think it will
be
that difficult to get people to change over. There will be people who go
early,
and many more who are late, but overall I think it can be done. For example,
when
the gateways changed to PID 4, most of them did so with only a few that took
another
week or month to get over...
If the gateway operators are responsible enough to convert by Jan 1, 2001, and
most of their local network with them, any connected part of the amprnet will
have
to follow to remain connected to amprnet.
Comments? Corrections?
