mail. Brian's reply to his detractors was one of the messages caught in
the queue during the outage, and he concluded that it had been
"censored", and hit the roof. Things escalated from there, to the point
that the moderator decided not to release further messages on the
subject. So, there were some unfortunate circumstances, and possibly
some errors in judgement - like the rest of us, list moderators are only
human - but, certainly no conspiracy. This incident also took place
while TAPR was preoccupied with preparations for the DCC in Seattle, so
it's not surprising that it didn't get much attention from TAPR
leadership at the time.
Fact: Although Brian claims to have been a supporter of TAPR in the
past, membership records indicate that he has never been a member. As
for the statement that a veritable "who's who" of amateur radio agree
that TAPR is not a viable organization... well, that's an easy claim to
make without any substantiation. I invite these unnamed folks to
contact me and explain what their problems are with TAPR. As an active
advocacy organization which is trying to advance packet radio into new
realms (higher speed, spread spectrum, new HF data modems and protocols,
use of Internet tools, etc), TAPR is certain to step on a few toes, but
that doesn't make it less viable. A "country club"? Excuse my
ignorance, but I've never belonged to one. What I see from the "inside"
is a bunch of hard-working, dedicated, unpaid volunteers developing and
testing kits, writing articles and books, putting on workshops and
tutorials, publishing a newsletter, administering mailing lists and web
pages, making bulk purchases on behalf of amateurs, mailing out info,
and a host of other things. If this is a "country club", I guess
they're okay in my book. Nope, it ain't perfect, but TAPR is doing a
lot more than just blowing smoke, and it's doing it on behalf of a large
constituency of amateurs, many of whom aren't even members. In my eyes,
the folks associated with TAPR are definitely a "who's who", and I'm
proud to be a part of it.

You tarred and feathered them in public. How should they respond?
Miss Manners says that the best procedure is to remove the name from
your party list, and donate all their past presents to charity.
You see the main point is to grow your manners at the expense of taking
others poor manners. Otherwise your apt to hack their chest with a
kitchen knife, or blow them full of holes in a fit of rage. Ask anyone
who's cleaned up after a murder, it's just a filthy mess, and you can't
always find all the brain pieces.

There's no "far worse." Be serious, this is a hobby. Quit taking this
like an episode of testicular cancer.

Well hell, let me go into my adult mode for a minute...
I know this has nothing to do with TCP/IP, but if we don't resolve this
now, then we'll have to listen to Brian for another year on this.
Brian, you've always been a conceited personality around the groups. You
are unable to take even the slightest amount of criticism. I know of no one
else who takes themselves that serious. You probably used to be a nice man.
Here's my suggestion: Stop programming. You have so much to offer your
TNOS users, but you don't listen anymore. Stop programming, and start
supporting what you wrote. I'm sure it will help your outlook on life.
Here's another suggestion: Take your time to respond. Make your response
bigger than your signature block. Always be considerate. Read Miss Manners.
Take your wife, girl friend (boy friend), whatever, on an excursion.
Good luck,
Steve
