Hi Ron,
That s why I am really pissed about this. The available chip sets, and
cheapness of test equipment for this band, allows for us to have a great
chance of breaking the pattern. A reasonable cost radio system, to do high
performance, and efficiency data network was possible until this happened. I
was looking at devlopeing a plug and play system, that was full duplex, and
off the shelf. But now, there is just not going to be enuf perfomance in
the idea, in the remaining spectrum to make it a worthwhile venture. My in-
vestment in time, test equipment, and technical literature has been wasted
by the government.
Its not how many people that are on a band that counts. It is the long term
availability of the band that engenders usership. As technology advances,
each higher band becomes practical for low cost development. If the government
takes away each practical band, as it become practical to be used, by
industry,
and consequently, by us, they are cheating us out of the Communications
Act of 1934 contrat with the citizenship.
Why does industry want this spectrum now? THE VERY SAME REASON WE WANT IT
NOW. We can make ready use of it in the next 10 years.
Ron, you are letting urself be duped by the lobyist persuation rhetoric. The
1.9 Ghz networks are just going on line here, in the Chicago area, this
winter.
That did not happen overnight. But, it is happening because they have the
spectrum on a long term basis. Hams are no different. 2.3 Ghz band has been
nibbled away over the last decade, relentlessly, and steadily. I initially
was not interested in it at because of this. And advised people who were to
ignore it, because of this. But, I was overcome by how sweet a system could
be done on the remaining spectrum space. Only to be too GD trusting of the
SH Politicians.
73, Don.

However anyone feels about 2300 MHz, it's important to draw the line here
and mobilize every ham to write and call his/her congressperson right after
the election. We can defend our bands if half a million hams make noise. If
we're quiet about it, there will be no frequencies left soon enough.
Thanks
Bruce Perens
P.S. Someone wrote to me complaining about my .signature appearing at the
end of my 2300 band reallocation posting. This is what he said:
> Bruce, neat way to get your business advertisement out there for
> everyone interested in Amateur Radio to see. Personally, I am appalled
> that you would piggy-back an advertisement onto such an important
> notice.
I put that .signature on every e-mail I send. Does anyone else have a problem
with it? As far as I read nettiquette it's fair usage for an informative
posting to carry a .signature. This someone also copied his complaint to ARRL!
Thanks
Bruce

I'd rather let capitalism develop a cheap solution on this band,
then wait for Hams to do anything. I think the FCC should sell
to the highest bidder, any Ham band not populated by at least
50% of licensed members.
----
Why should they SELL IT??? What's a lousy $10 Billion?? Once the spectrum is
gone, it's GONE FOREVER!! If it's going to be used by commercial
services, it ought to be LEASED. It's a public asset and it's going to be
worth much more in 10 years than what it is now.
Humbly,
Bob
