I agree. It's a nice idea, but it would force me to remove my already
over-spammed email address from my beacons.

I've been wondering why I get spam via my arrl.net address - maybe now I
know, because that's the address in both my home station and my digi
beacons. Man, there ain't nothin' safe from scumbag spammers.

Subject: Battery Bacup for DR-135TP Radio/TNC?

Thanks to the improvements in AGWPE PRO, I can now use my DR-135TP radio
with internal TNC in KISS mode. This is for my main APRS program, UI-View32.
I use the D700 setting in AGWPE PRO and it seems to work fine.
There is only one MAJOR problem with the DR-135TP. Its internal TNC drops
out of kiss mode when power is lost. I have to prevent power from ever being
dropped to the DR-135TB, or my aprs station will stop working.
I have available a 17 AH portable battery supply that is always being float
charged. I don't want to run the radio/tnc with it all the time. I would
like to be able to run it in a "switched parallel" mode with the existing
Astron supply which runs several pieces of equipment besides the DR-135TP.
Is there a SIMPLE way to put this emergency battery supply in parallel with
the existing Astron, such that when AC mains are lost, it will
instantaneously switch to the backup battery that is being float charged.
(This is one of those automobile strarting portable battery setup with cig
light plug, light, etc)
I need to have it switch automatically, and be properly isolated from the
Astron when power is on or comes back on. I seem to remember there is a
trick with a diode that will allow this. Could someone please clue me in,
and be specific!
TIA,
....hasan, N0AN

Steve Diggs reports that PCsat's telemetry counter is showing countS OVER
800 meaning it has been alive for more that 12+ hours without a reset.
Thus she's working round-the clock. Enjoy!

PCSAT was found in low power mode at the beginning of this CONUS pass;
the last recorded telemetry counter was <<893>>. Yes, 893.
Here is a telem sniplet:
2:Fm W3ADO-1 To BEACON Via SGATE <UI pid=F0 Len=42 >[10:40:31]
T#888,157,159,080,208,213,00111110,0011,1
If I understand this correctly, PCSAT is at the moment in positive power
budget for nearly 10 orbits. Battery voltage was steady at 157,159.
Battery temp was at a balmy 24.7. (~76F)

Steve Diggs, W4EPI

Yikes. Thanks for the link.
Bob, should PCSAT2 perhaps incorporate some sort of airbag system, or maybe
some bumpers and crumple zones? =]

I could see leaving a couple out but all 24 and no-one noticed it was a
little loose before they moved it. Better check the water bottles.

Doubtful. Having worked for a few aerospace firms, I always marvelled that
incompetence did not seem to be grounds for firing. Same goes for
investment bankers and stock brokers...
Lockheed Martin California has been plagued with labor disputes and quality
control "issues" for several years now. It would not surprise me to find
out this was not an accident. Remember NASA all but accused LM Palmdale
of out and out sabotage on both shuttles Columbia and Endeavour.
CNN ran a piece on this a few days back. What's worse is that this
satellite is fully fueled, and they can't move it until the batteries
deplete and the propellant tanks depressurize, which could take 3 weeks.

PCsat's pass over USA this evening will be at about these times. Just
QSY your mobile rig to 145.825 and set your path via W3ADO-1. Clear
out your LIST and Message LIST and see what you capture.
These times are estimates, I dont have a program in front of me:
PDT MDT CDT EDT
---- ---- ---- ----
1600 New england
1540 1640 1740 Eastern USA
1620 1720 1820 1920 Middle USA
1800 1900 2000 Western USA
1940 2040 Southwest coast
Do not overload her, but just run your normal 1 or 2 minute rate and lets
see what happens.
