Reminds of the time I attended old Fort Hays days and was standing in front
of the surgeon's tent display pondering why where the "soldering irons"
doing there. When the bone saws caught my gaze, I shuddered a little and no
pondered, realizing they where most likely used during amputations to
cauterize the blood vessels. During the vo-tech days I discovered that my
jeans made an always ready cleaning surface for the soldering iron, I
suppose it wouldn't be recommended for those made of synthetic cloth.

The only difference between the PDA and laptop versions is the software and
cable bundle. One thing to watch out for is that you have to apply at least
1 volt on the RX pin to wake it up. See
http://www.grundlgasse.at/thomas/digitraveler/.  I built a little board for
my TT3 that goes between the TT3 and the GPS - it's got a 6-volt regulator
that operates off the 12-volt pass-through and also puts a voltage on the
required pin. I pulled the GPS out of its enclosure and hot-glued it to the
inside of the lid of a project box. It only takes up about 3/8" of space.
The box has four hard drive voice coil magnets epoxied to the bottom and it
holds quite well on a car trunk or roof.

Gents,

I was just mucking around with perl. Here is what I did:-

1.connect to aprs server for 5 minutes
2. insert callsign,path,payload, email address into mysql
3. select distinct callsign from table
4. count number of packets for each callsign.

I would like to analyse path as well.

Gives some interesting results.

Most were around 1-9 or high 20's except for:-

HS0AC-1 = 307
KF6IG = 40
N0EOP-14 = 30
NHCTCM = 46
ON5QP-9 = 78
OZ8SOR = 35
SV2BZQ-14 = 70
VK3YDK-9 = 28
WR5J-9 = 63

I am not pointing any fingers, just developing some bandwidth shaping code.

#!/usr/bin/perl
use DBI;
my $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:aprs:host=localhost;","root","");
$sql1 = "SELECT distinct callsign from data order by callsign";
my $sth1 = $dbh->prepare($sql1);
$sth1->execute();
while (($callsign) = $sth1 -> fetchrow())
{
$sql2 = "SELECT count(*) FROM data where callsign =\"$callsign\"";
my $sth2 = $dbh->prepare($sql2);
$sth2->execute();
my $count;
while ( $count = $sth2->fetchrow )
{
    print  $callsign." = ". $count."\n";
}
$sth2->finish();
}
$dbh->disconnect;

I must have missed something about these.
I looked on the RS site and could not find them listed or by using their
search.
What's the RS# and what is this item, a GPS module for PDA's maybe?

This is the filter text I want to send to second.aprs.net:14580

They're just a headless NMEA GPS module... they've got a connection for 6v
power and an RJ11 for RS-232, and that's it. Took me about 3 minutes to
build a laptop cable for one of the PDA packaged units. I think the GPS
engine is a Sony... it's 16 channels, anyway. Not that it helps much. I've
bought three so far, I may go back and buy another couple if the price has
gone down again. I gutted one for use in a tracker, and another one I
modified to remove the RS-232 driver for use with a Sony Clie.

I went to two local RS stores, AFTER I gave them the part numbers, both had
the PDA versions on sale. Bought 2. Dale City still has one, and the one on
HY 1 across from HRO has one left too.

Took a couple of min. to cut off the PDA connector, solder the 3 wires to a
DB9,put on a shell, add 3 AAA batteries and fire up the laptop with Street
Atlas 8, select generic GPS and it works!! When I plugged in the GPS to the
laptop, the green lite on the GPS came on.

Have a look at the following URL from a flight today. It is a findu plot.

It shows two artifacts on the plot that are clearly not correct positions. I
have seen erratic track lines before due to out of time sequence packets but
this would appear to show new packets in the wrong place. On my realtime
UI-View plot I do not see the same artifacts so I doubt it is actually bad
GPS data output.. Any idea what could cause this.

Check out http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/rawposit.cgi?call=va3shq-7  If
you go through the packets, you will see some instances of packets with
missing characters. This may be due to a number of causes, one of which
could be a TNC with PASSALL set on.

I agree with Pete, here is one of the culprits, you'll see a dropped

Do you think this happening at a digi site or on the source TNC? The TNC on
the airplane was a KPC3+.
I'll check to see if PASSALL is on.
