Hi Ray, I service these models regularly in the shop I work at. Both the
P110 and HT600 are fully programmable. They require a RIB (Radio Interface
Box), proper cable and the software to do so.

Depending on the model numbers, some can go out of band, way out of band or
not at all. If you can give me the model numbers I can find out more by
checking the service manual in the shop. I work in the portable shop, so I
have easy access to all of that. The model number is usally about 14 or 15
characters long and will be a combo of numbers and letters.

Are these VHF or UHF? Let me know what you can find out and I'll try and
let you know more about what you have.

Please Bob!

Do not even *appear* to be suggesting a path of 5 to 7 hops for Wyoming!
Honestly and truthfully, RELAY,WIDE2-2 is MORE than enough for the VAST
majority of mobile situations. In the 5 town areas that have digipeaters
- RELAY or WIDE alone are plenty. Out on the road - RELAY, WIDE is
enough to get you to an I-gate more than 80% of the time you're going to
be able to get to one at all. Pretty much anywhere in the state - if you
hit ONE WIDE, you're into an I-gate. No need for anything further!!

If anything, Wyoming is an area where the "50 user" circle not only
encompasses almost the entire state - but is not a reasonable metric for
your purposes. If I'm understanding what you're on about here - a more
appropriate 'user circle' would be like 10 or so. We have a VERY large
geographic area, a very small APRS population, some of the most
excellent WIDE coverage anywhere (including some of the highest WIDES in
the country), and an unusually high number of I-gates to users ratio.

Please - RELAY, WIDE2-2 for mobiles and WIDE2-2 for stationary stations
AT THE MOST. Many local users have already, on their own, changed to
such 'short' paths here and it shows (major thumbs up to the local guys!).

Thanks!!

I agree 100% and have stated that several times over the past few years.
Sometime in 93' I had Tom W2VY author of ROSE intrested in APRS support
and what I wanted was a way to have a APRS digi in the node stack send
all the packets over the 9600 baud backbone. Got some support for UI on
ROSE and a BTEXT then Tom got out of the ROSE program and that was about
it.

About 1-2 years ago I was contacted by a very large group of Packet
users that crosses most of the state here. We are now mostly FPAC and
they WANTED US to come use the backbone system. I posted to the list for
anyone with interest in developing FPAC with APRS to contact me or them
but no interest. I re-posted a few months ago and still no one came up
to the plate.

A mixture of backbones, WIDE's, RELAYs small WIDE's and good antenna
selection/design could really help some areas. I am not a programmer and
am way too involved with other projects like teaching the CERT program
and ham testing to do any good for the cause.

The offer still stands, I will put anyone in touch with the group if
then can help out. The backbone covers most of the state of FL and APRS
interest could increase the effort on expanding it even more. Question
is are they still intersted after so long of a wait?

Rich
