Yes, Robbie - WA9INF suggested by email that I try setting the path to
APRS,WIDE instead of the current RELAY,WIDE3-3 to see if that works. I'll
give it a try as soon as I get home from work this afternoon.

The D7 and D700 do not display there own positions on the GPS map. My
truck has a TT3 inbedded and is -6. I use my D7 to monitor the -6. The
-6 shows on the GPS map but the -7 will not show up. Hope this helps.

Following the example of Curt's APRS client capabilities chart, I've started
a tracker capabilities chart. I've seeded it with a few devices and what
parameters I know. Please excuse the awful formatting, I'll clean it up
when I've got all the data collected. Please look it over and email me
off-list with additions or changes.

Hello all.
Actually this seems to be a very interesting topic. I really was amazed
how simple it was. Now I think Ill keep the Etrex Lengend for trecking and
portable use and use my Rockwell Jupiter GPS module to feed the motorbike
and all its aprs related components.

Now if I could only stream the video from my Ipaq display to a water proof
touch screen that could be mounted between the handlebars for displaying
real time map movements, trip information, local information and graphical
weather reports, I would be a very happy camper. :)

Thanks Curt.
Thanks a good point.
I just removed the tx wire for the ipaq so that it is only able to recieve
nmea data stream. Now the waypoints are displayed on both the Ipaq (MS
Pocket Streets) and the Etrex. There is no information I need to get from
pocket streets to the GPS so Ill leave it disconneted.

I have not checked it out on vers much detail yet but im sure that pocket
streets could have sent local information to the GPS. Things like hotels,
ferries, fuel stops and campgrounds, in the form of waypoints.

As I only have 512Mb of memory, I would not like to load the ipaq up with
all that data anyway.

Thanks again

Got the combination to work ok. The problem was the KPC3 baud rate was set
to 4800 to support the Garmin GPS and the Delorme Earthmate runs at 9600.
Changed the ABAUD to 9600 and all now work fine.

Allen spent last night in Spokane, WA, and departed here at 1000 PDT,
enroute Whetstone, MT airport via Kalispell, MT. The 48 Ercoupe has been
running great, he reports. He also said he's been very pleasantly surprised
by the contact with hams along the way who have come to say hi. In some
cases, there have been groups of hams along the fence waiting for him to
park and climb out.

For those who have not met Allen, he's been a pilot since 1969, and is
co-owner of the Ercoupe (blue with white stripe, orange on the tail,
N94898). He's a retired school teacher and principal, and took the month
off to enjoy a trip around the U.S. Needless to say, I'm envious. His goal
has been to visit the furthest east, south, west, and north airports within
CONUS, thus the northern trip to Whetstone, MT, today. The next leg of the
trip will take him to South Dakota and then Kansas, before heading back
east.

Allen reports gas prices for the AV100 have been rising at each leg of his
trip. Today he paid $3.33/gal at Felts Field in Spokane, which is the
highest so far on this excursion. The Ercoupe burns about 5-6 gals/hour,
and has a 25 gallon tank capacity.

Most of you already know he's running a D7A. But I'll bet you didn't know
he's only using the stock crappy antenna from inside the cockpit. I was
quite surprised by that. Maybe it's not as crappy as I thought. He also has
12vdc running to the radio. The radio comes on aircraft power up. The GPS
is a Garmin 190. He also has another GPS with maps for navigation.

Please note that Allen will not be acknowledging any messages sent to the
D7A. Sid Ceasar, associated with the Naval Academy Amateur Radio Club
W3ADO, installed the radio so the rest of us could track the aircraft.
Maybe Allen will have an interest in getting his ham ticket when this is
all done.

That's about it for this report. Here's a picture of the Ercoupe cockpit
and Allen. Note the D7A on the right side of the cockpit, and the Garmin
GPS on the dash. Pretty simple install, huh? If you look through the
plexiglass across the taxiway, you'll see another Ercoupe nearly identical
to the one Allen is flying. SORRY, THE APRSSIG DOESN'T ALLOW HTML AND THE
PICTURE EXCEEDS THE APPROVED SIZE.

Problem solved. It had to do with the way the unproto was sent up on the
home (fixed) station. Changed, and now the D7 "hears" all the
transmissions. Thanks to all that sent me suggestions. They led to a
resolution on what I was doing wrong.

Why don't we just build in automatic RPM generation into the makefiles ?

Well, it's really not hard to make an RPM. I've made several. Problem is,
you make a binary, it sits around and a few people use it on one particular
operating system. They rev the operating system. Now your RPM may or may
not work there, depending on whether they've changed the API on any of the
libraries Xastir depends on.

Now, add that there are many operating systems we run on, plus multiple
libraries that you can compile in, or not, and you get quite a large matrix
of possible binaries that you would have to create.

What I've been thinking about lately is a Wiki page where people could add
links to various RPM's they create/find. That way someone that wanted to
create every possible RPM for every version of Red Hat could do so. Another
site for Gentoo, another for SuSE, Slackware, Mandrake, etc.
