Need to be carefull though.
Metricom (a company that offered high speed wireless networking in large
cities in the mid to late 90's) obtained many patents for it's routing
technology which was basically a mesh type. They have since gone bankrupt
and the patents have been sold to some other company.
Their system was pretty neat. They basically blanketed a city with small
base stations on light and power poles that communicated with larger base
station sites. The smaller base stations could send messages to each other
or to the main base station site depending on availability.
I love software patents (sarcasticly).
