Regarding the D7 Manual Position reporting:

I initially proposed that there could be more than one special locations
file, but when I implemented it, I realized that more-than-one just gives
more potential for errors and confusion, so I only implemented just ONE
file and nailed it in code to the N40- W40 lat/long.

I'd recommend we stick with that so that we dont have clusters all over
the place.... Bob

It looks like the 1948 Ercoupe vintage aircraft carrying our W3ADO-11
tracker has arrived in San Diego about an hour ago.

Allan is flying 20,000 around the USA and is only 1/3rd into his flight.
Enjoy tracking him, or say hi if you are at the airport...

What happens when this stuff finds it's way into the Internet and findu?

Are we going to see lots of hams out in the North Atlantic the same way
WinAPRS Mic-E mangling was placing numerous mobiles off the Canary Islands?

Be aware that spray on substances can SERIOUSLY impact component cooling.
If you're way under margin, then it probably won't matter. But any parts
you have now that get 'warm to the touch' might get WAY too warm if they
are coated.

Make sure you keep that in mind.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods, but Fry's Electronics sells spray on
conformal coat. ...Certainly available at both the San Diego and San
Marcos stores. Mouser also stocks it.

Thanks Bob. This is, IM!HO, one of the biggest steps foreward for APRS
useability in a long time. Now I'll be able to build on all the work
you've done to add the little tweaks I've been longing for.

Are you still going to play the role of official keeper of the source? I'm
sure folks will be coming up with changes that would be beneficial to the
"master program" and we need somebody to make the big choice on what's in
or out.

Also, should we start to use a special differentiator for "experimental"
versions. If somebody hacks something and starts generating bogus data,
since it's APD..., you'll end up getting the calls.

Thanks again.. This is going to be fun.

Bob, you going to place a plot of the course on the web page? Would be good
information.

Does anybody have a suggestion on where the Quickbasic compiler could be
acquired?

There are a number of different basic types of conformal coatings - they
include:

Type AR - acrylic typically Humiseal 1B31 and 1B73, other manufacturers
make this. works fairly well and easy to rework.

Type UR - Urethane, Humiseal 1A33 and others. A little more robust than
acrylic, harder to rework.

Silicones - Dow Corning, etc. these are not solvent based like the acrylics
and urethanes. Silicone is a room temperature vulcanizing material. Harder
to rework, typically a little thicker coating than the solvent based
coatings. Works well.

Paraxylene - really, really good coating. Also really, really expensive.
Need special equipment to apply.
