Looks like the semicolons should be colons. Can't see anything else
wrong. Are you generating those outside of Xastir?

Yeah, I changed them to colons and all is now well.

Yes, I am. I should have mentioned that when I posted. I can see Curt's
forehead break out in sweat when he thinks there's a bug in the code.

Thank you

Shouldn't that be

KC8OBZ-3>APX131,KC8OBZ-2:;PCSAT *121525z4232.40N\15305.40ES

The colon separating the header from the body, and the semi-colon
designating an object. It would parse with just a colon, but that was
for legacy packets before a packet type was written into the spec.

RARE East Coast High Altitude APRS Balloon! Tomorrow!

This is RARE indeed. East Coast balloons are risky as they may never be
recovered if they make it to the Atlantic. So if you have a boat, be
ready...?

>>>k8jwt@adelphia.net 4/15/04 10:51:17 PM >>>
This Saturday morning between 8AM & 10AM the West Virginia University NASA
Research Project Group will be launching a High Altitude Balloon from the
Jackson's Mill 4-H Camp area. It will have a APRS package on board under
the call of W8CUL-something beacon it progress hopfully to break 100,000
feet this year.

So at least you have something to watch this weekend on APRS.

I will be in the main tracking vehicle running under the call of
K8LG-something. As you can tell my participitation is main just for the
tracking laptop operation since in the area I am the one who has used
UIView the most.

Predicted path is southeasterly towards the WV-VA border near Spruce
Knob,WV. But you never know???

Dale's more correct than I was. I didn't refer to the spec. ":;" is the
correct combo there. You have to have a ':' at the end of the header
before you start into the payload. The payload in this case starts with a
semicolon.

Hi all --
Looking to find another APRS weather buff who is using the LaCrosse station
with UI-View. I've ordered the station and am hoping to be prepared for any
problems that exists BEFORE it arrives!

I'm HF only.

Thanks much.

I am trying to run AGWPE 2002.308 on a 500mhz EDEN VIA mother board running
win2k.

The first time I launch AGWPE, I can access the menu from the taskbar to
create a TNC port, and other options too.

Once I have created a TNC port and close the program, it locks up when
restarted. I have tried to tell it not to send serial commands to the TNC,
and also to send serial commands to the TNC to switch into KISS mode.

I know all of this is kind of vague, but really, I have no clue what is
going wrong, nor any idea how to troubleshoot this any better.... on a
hunch, I'm off to d/l service packs for win2k.

Any other hints?

Wes

BalloonSat VII Launch Announcement!

An APRS equipped balloon is planned for launch this Saturday morning.

Who:
University of Alabama Students - (University of Alabama - Huntsville)

What:
BalloonSat VII (cut down will be initiated around 95,000 ft)

APRS on 144.39 MHz (KI4DWY-1) using J-Pole antenna at .5W.
144.34 FM 30 mW CW beacon ID as WB8ELK

When:
Saturday - April 17, 2004 at approximately 10:30am.

This is the anticipated launch time. Times may/will vary to resolve
pre-flight issues. There is a remote chance that rain shower could delay
or cancel the launch possibilities this morning. Any updates will be
broadcast as APRS bulletins from the launch site.

Where:
Huntsville, Alabama
National Space Science and Technology Center
NSSTC is near UAH in Huntsville, Alabama off of Sparkman Drive across
from the UAH campus. Just follow the congregation of APRS tracking mobiles.
Launch Site lat/lon:
34 43.48
86 38.78

Where they could land:
Today's landing site is extremely dependent on many factors. Since this is
a test for the communications payload, it is likely that a cut down command
will be issued around 95,000 feet to limit the distanced traveled.

Since these weather balloons can reach altitudes over 100,00 feet the line
of site radio range could be over 450 miles in all directions. However,
this flight is very dependent upon issuance of a cut down command from the
ground team. Thus, the altitude is not expected to rise above 95,000 feet
since it will be controlled.

You may want to listen for a direct radio signal from the balloon payload
to see if you can hear it directly. Any reports of direct reception are
welcomed to see how far the signal propagates via direct radio signal.

The Balloonatics and ComSat teams will meet at NSSTC, 9 a.m. They will be
launching a communications and scientific payloads on a 1500 gram balloon.
The communications package contains an radio transceiver operating on the
amateur radio 2 meter band at a frequency of 144.39 MHz, a global
positioning system (GPS) receiver and a terminal node controller. The
scientific payload contains a three axis, strap-down magnetometer for
measuring the earth's magnetic field, two film cameras, two tilt sensors,
inside/outside temperature sensors, and a barometer (good to 50,000 feet).
The BasicX microprocessor will log the data and it will also be telemetered
down via packet radio on 144.39 MHz. A cut down will be attempted. The
current prediction is for a landing northeast of Guntersville, Alabama.

The public is invited to attend the launch. For further information
contact UAH News Director, Ray Garner (824-6414) or Dr. John Piccirillo
(704-3645) or jpicciri@eb.uah.edu.
