serial connection with the D7 at all. If I'm mistaken about this, I would
appreciate it if someone would set me straight because it would provide a
very convenient excuse for me to go buy a D7.>

John, there must be a way to do this. The programming software
(downloadable from Kenwood, and runs without a radio being present) is
capable of fully loading the radio, including the ability to change the data
in the three status message areas. So, there's a way to reach in through the
PC port and load text into those message areas, etc.
That might mean forcing a radio reset or something else to close and write
the data...but the radio still does that quickly.

You've got your excuse! For the THD7 and a PDA with a keyboard on it,
too.<G>

(This message was supposed to have gone out HOURS ago... But email server
issues didn't allow this.)

I copied this off the IS just a few minutes ago... I missed a bunch of
them, but this is weird. I see hundreds of stations sending acks to N6GVG
who is RF near Norfolk Virginia. I copied the messages off of findU and the
traffic off the IS feed. What is going on? I would hate to think that all
this is being gated over RF to him. It appears he is running PocketAPRS.

Eric,

It's called looping packets. This is what happens when a server gets
misconfigured or uses multiple simultaneous server connects. What server
are you connected to? <g>

These are the raw packets as seen by findU, the loop is between you, ke4tzn
and PRKRAZ-1. N6GVG > KE4TZN >< KF4OTN >< PRKRAZ-1

N6GVG>APP194,W4NHV-9,KD4PBS-3*,TRACE2-2,qAr,KE4TZN:@131220z3454.69N/07857.28Wu0/

KF4OTN>APU25M,TCPIP*,qAS,PRKRAZ-1:=/ KF4OTN>APU25M,TCPIP*,qAS,PRKRAZ-1:=/

The last raw packet is a classic example.

PRKRAZ-1 is connected to fourth.aprs.net. Fourth has detected the loops to
for verification.

http://fourth.aprs.net:14501

As of this reading PRKRAZ-1 has sent the most bytes to fourth than any
other connected user. That would be the case when looping occurs.

Could N6GVG have sent out some sort of generic query? At first glance
(I didn't do a look-up on all of the stations) these are APRS-IS
connected (qAC) UI-View stations. They are apparently acking some sort
of message sent by N6GVG, probably some sort of generic query, though
that should not happen.

This is very similar to what was seen with older aprsd versions who
responded with messages to ?IGATE? instead of using the station
capabilities packet. And yes, all that gets gated out to RF since they
area valid messages.

Looking at this, it appears that the first three messages had no
destination, my guess is this somehow acted as a wild card. Interestingly,
all 4 messages here have an ID number of zero, that alone would be a bug.

I am connecting via cell today (jury duty) and can't investigate deeper...
