There are no glitches I know of, but without specific examples there is
nothing I can check. As I said when I announced it, some areas, especially
those without water or significant relief changes can be all but worthless,
and while I do hope to eventually overlay political boundaries and city
names, that will be a while in the future.

By popular demand, I've added support for voltage and temperature telemetry
in APRS mode. Previously the measurements were only reported in OpenTRAC
format.

Rather than the native APRS telemetry format, I'm using the comment field.
Client support for telemetry seems to be inadequate, and the added overhead
wasn't really worth it. What you'll see on the air will look something like
this:

N1VG-6>APOT01:!3452.89N/12037.14W> 13.0V 32C
Your options for temperature are Celsius, and <off>. Deal with it. =] And
note that the Metric / English option in the configuration program ONLY
affects the displayed units in the configuration program itself.

Next on the to-do list: Support for fixed operation (no GPS attached), and
direct Web download of new firmware.

Great! If this is fixed field, then we can use the presence of the
_xx.xV_xxC as the parsing flag. But what about negative temperatures? May
need to add an additional byte between the Volts and temp?

I used to know of at least one site that could translate an address to GPS
coordinates, but I've lost track of it.

Anyone got one?

That space before the temperature changes to a '-' if it's negative. If
anyone wants to parse it, let me know first so we can nail down the exact
formatting.

Also, both fields can be turned on or off in the config program, so you
might have just one or the other.

I haven't got Xastir up and running on the linux box yet.
I've been busy..

What does it take, on a RH9 system?

Good question. I know we have a lot of users running RH9. I'm using SuSE
Linux myself.

Follow the steps in the INSTALL document if installing on
Linux/Solaris/FreeBSD/MacOSX. Follow the README.win32 document if
installing on Win95 through WinXP.

If you want the address lookup stuff (sorry, U.S. only at present), you'll
need to install the geocoder files for the areas of interest. We have a new
link called "Map Pointers" on our home page that takes you to a lot of the
download sites. We now use 2003 Tiger data for our street maps, so we're
ahead of the curve there.

Your best bet is to subscribe to the "xastir" list, try an install, and ask
questions if you run into trouble. You'll get fairly fast answers there.
The starting point is, as always:

I'm confused! Do the mints go below the circuit board or above?

The mints go below the board! They'd get too hot if they were on top!

Those are you emergency rations, needed to keep you alive until the SAR
people find you via your APRS beaconing. Better keep them somewhere!

Hmm... Have to read that "Nutrition Facts" label again...
