True, but the problem with the packet mode is the data is old when
transmitted. On the other hand, get one of Byon's WeatherTrk's and have it
all!

The documentation for MacAPRS states:
"Mac/WinARS can also operate as an APRS server, it allows connections on
port 14439 or port 23. When you connect you get a dump of the current
station list from the server."
However, both of these ports remain closed on my PowerBook 1400 running
MacAPRS 3.6.1 and I have not been able to find anywhere to turn this option
on. Can anyone tell me what the secret is?

I believe this has not been available for quite a LONG time.
It seems the server that allowed this was DUMPED due to COST/ trouble.
For whatever reason, this function is no longer available
(as far as I know).
If it IS, let ME know how you got it working...maybe they eventually found
another server to run it on, but I don't think so.

Thanks for the input Curt. Unfortunately, the PowerBook 1400 is stuck on OS
9 and that model isn't supported for YD Linux either.
The station is in another building remote from the house but connected by
Ethernet. I'd like to be able to connect thru to it from my 12" PB G4 or
the XYL's PII 350 if I could just get it to spew out what it hears!
Unfortunately the MacAPRS/WinAPRS documentation does not reflect the current
versions.
I'm even starting to consider Apple Remote Desktop!

That is true... Looking at some data I am left scratching my head. Why
isn't barometric pressure shown on my findU weather display??? I'm not
seeing it for mine (KF4OTN-6) but is for Doug's (K4ROK) and Mike's
(KB4TOH-11). As far as I know all three are setup the same.
I'm not so much worried about mine because I'll be upgrading that station
with a computer, UI-View32 and Weather Display software, and network
connection so it will be a RELAY digipeater, I-Gate, and weather station
all-in-one. If I'm not mistaken, it will tx an APRS formatted weather
report with all the weather parameters that my Peet will provide (Wind
Speed, Direction, Temperature, Barometric Pressure, Trend, Rainfall).
BUT, what would be the best setup for those that CAN'T run a computer at
their digi site where they also have a weather station? I know that Doug's
digi will be on a tower platform at 800' and cannot have a computer there.

From the CQ Newsroom...
The FCC's Notice of Proposed Rule Making on BPL (Broadband over Power Lines)
-- ET Docket 03-104 -- has been published in the Federal Register, which
starts the clock on the comment deadline. Comments arre due by May 3, with
reply comments due by June 1.
Comments may be filed electronically via the FCC's Electronic Comment Filing
System at <http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/ecfs/Upload/>.
Information on BPL and its potential impact on hams and other HF spectrum
users is available on the ARRL website and in the "VHF-Plus" column of the
April issue of CQ magazine. In addition, the May issue of CQ and the spring
issue of CQ VHF will have extensive coverage of the issues, the specifics of
the NPRM and what to listen for in terms of BPL interference on the ham
bands. The May issue of CQ should be in subscribers' mailboxes and on
newsstands 1-2 weeks prior to the filing deadline.
In addition, check the CQ and CQ VHF websites
(<http://www.cq-amateur-radio.com> and <http://www.cq-vhf.com>,
respectively) for additional information which we expect to post in the next
several days.

MacAPRS never could act as a server, WinAPRS can and still does very well.
I do not have MacAPRS working on OSX native yet but will get it done.
I have been working a lot on improving the tiger maps speed etc.
