Just wanted everyone to know that I was not the sender of "[aprssig] mp3
player without any wire comes out with a very good price!" This was
obviously a spoofed email address and mine was the luck one that got used.
Sorry that this email was sent to the sig.

Subject: UI-View Compressed WX Packet & findU

Forgive me if this has been asked before - I could not find a reference.
Are UI-View's compressed packets non-standard or is there another reason
why findU is not seeing my WX data when I send it with compressed position
data? It updates my position on the map page, but will not translate the
weather data on the weather page. Thanks!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply. The information on the Kenwoods was very helpful.
From local discussions with commercial radio engineers and techs with
practical experience on the pros and cons of Preemp/Deemp we have decided
to go for flat audio responses on our digipeaters for the following
reasons.
- Preemp/Deemp benefits voice more than data, it is more important to
correctly decode the data timing than remove high end noise.
- A flat audio Digi is more sensitive to decoding a preemp mobile than
visa-versa. This is again due to NRZI timing issues and the squeue of the
audio.
- Most of the mobiles here are Kenwoods.
- The State Fire Service run all their data over RF using flat audio for
best performance.
I also found the MFJ 1270Bs add 6db of preemp to the audio in the TNC so
this must be removed by moding the TNC. See

Cheers
Richard
