Thank You! I could not find that on their site!

If you remember the original TinyTrak and TinyTrak II were pinned this way.
It was furiating to me since I had to use a null adapter or make a custom
GPS cable just for it. On my first TT, I built it into a small case and
replaced the female DB89 with a male and swapped the TX and RX lines to
make it like the current TinyTrak III. I think it made much more sense to
go that way. Why have a null modem adapter for 99% of the time the TT is
on and NOT need it for the 1% you spend programming it.

Thanks again for the link.

I never understood that either. No one distributes GPS receivers with null
modem cables. But null modem cables for connection to a PC are cheap and
readily available. When I started work on the OpenTracker, it didn't really
occur to me to do it any other way. I'm sure there was some good reason for
it at some point.

Running APRS863..

Just getting back into APRS after an absence of several years and have run
into a problem, even though I saved everything and it made the proper
C:\config.apr file when I boot up the program it ignores some of the
information, that is, it loads a default map, "RUN" map of Maryland, not
the one I saved.. When I hit "1" for the world map, there is my house in
the right location.

Question: How can I get it to come up with the right map?

Was it actually bought in the U.S., or purchased in Japan and then
brought over by an individual. I didn't think any of the stuff was yet
available -- I sort of thought the official coming-out might be this
year's Dayton Hamvention......

Since few of the board level GPS receivers in common use have a DB-9 on
them, compatibility with the PC ruled. You had to make a GPS cable anyway.

Everything was obtained from Icom US and the local dealer. The trustee
said he'd write details later today.

For what it's worth, I spoke a couple of years ago with one of the
designers of the original TNC-1, and a guy who's spent quite a bit of time
designing packet-like hardware for commercial applications, and one of his
comments is that the noise level in the TNC (i.e., digital crud on the DC
and signal lines) was a significant factor in decoding performance. You
might take a look at the pins of the demodulator chip to see how much noise
is there, compared to the input signal level.

It's been quite some time since I used a dumb tracker, and I've forgotten
most of how to set one up. Roy, W5ROY, has been using one off and on, but
not very successfully. Packets keep getting chopped up, cut off, combined,
etc. He has been using a DigiTraveller GPS, but yesterday, I loaned him my
GPS-2+ and cable. He still gets the same thing. Here's a sample of his
data, does anybody have a suggestion for getting this tracker running?

Thanks,
Earl
