Well, it appears that somehow my aprsworld.net domain didn't get renewed.
First thing tomorrow I hope to get this fixed and everything back online.

So this means that aprsworld.net won't be accessable by that method until the
domain gets renewed and back into the active database. You can instead use:

instead of db.aprsworld.net you can use
http://aprsworld-db.agron.iastate.edu/datamart/search.php
and for maps:
http://aprsworld-maps.agron.iastate.edu/

I'm quite annoyed. Somehow I can handle keeping 80 other domains current and
paid for, but my personal ones slipped by...

Sorry for the trouble,

-Jim

Bob, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll see if I can run an access opportunity
prediction in STK. What's an appropriate sun angle constraint? Or should I
just show anything with PCsat in sunlight?

ISS digipeater is currently listening on 145.825. This frequency was for
compatibility with PCsat and other UI-digipeaters on that frequency in the
future. Unfortunately PCsat is currenly not usable in the northern
hemisphere due to poor sun angles but it might be usable in midday passes
in the Southern Hemisphere.?

So you have an opportunity for a double-hop experiment. Set your unproto
path:

UNPROTO APRS VIA W3ADO-1,ARISS

And transmit on 145.925 and listen on 145.800. A 2-hop success will come
down via the path of W3ADO-1,RS0ISS-3*.

I dont have recent keps, and PCsat and ISS may not even be in view of each
other in the southern hemisphere right now, but I thought I'd point out the
possibilities if anyone wants to take a crack at it.

Distance is more likely. I don't know what the speed record is, but we had
a near-space balloon hit 119mph going through the jet stream and nobody
mentioned record. Of course, you might have longest time at that speed
since typically near-space balloons are trying to go up or down not remain
at the same altitude.

Hmmm, just looked and maybe nobody thought to keep speed records.

Check out Ralph Wallio's Balloon record pages at:

I'll second that! Perhaps Robert can comment more on the construction etc.
at some point.

Yes, that's correct. The only way to get the ascent/descent rate is to
compare the altitude and time between 2 or more readings. (and keep in mind
that altitude isn't the most accurate reading out of GPS.)

Question for Steve Dimse:

I'm planning to run a flight test of the Pocket Tracker on the EOSS flight
this upcoming Saturday, February 21, the flight will be north of the Denver
Metro Area. I was planning to run the pocket tracker on 144.39 with path
of "WIDE" and one packet per minute. Do you think this will inordinately
hammer the system capacity ?

Issue: the pocket track can only run on 144.34 or .39. Another payload is
on .34 (experimental EBBE with balloon groups in adjacent states) For
flight tracking purposes, transmission intervals greater than one minute
are not desired as the position updates become pretty time critical as we
can sometimes manuever with the descending balloon to effect a rendezvous
with the balloon as it lands. It will sound odd, but we have had at least
two cases of payload purloinment from recently landed balloons in the past
couple years. Being the first one there eliminates this possiblity. I was
thinking about putting in the single 'WIDE' so I can get a hop as a lot of
the i gate stations run gain antennas that are looking at horizon, not up
in the air. The flight duration should be less than 3 hours.

Scott,

The filter command is correct but first.aprs.net is an aprsd server and
does not support the javAPRSFilter functions. Use one of the javAPRSSrvr
based servers, e.g. second, third, fourth or any of the tier2 servers.

Also be aware that I'm Swedish so the range is in km (kilometers) and not
miles. You need to change the filter to 161 km and you will get a 100 miles
range.
