Good question there Jim - I'd venture to say the correct answer is: it
depends. Really sit down and make an honest evalutaion of what you're
going to send out - who's going to see it, how far or often does it get
sent out, etc.

Good start is: 'control your path enthusism'. If you have an RF path
outside of your local area - well, you've just made all those 'other
guys' part of your project, wether they wanted to be or not. Could be
usefull, may bring out the restless natives. Maybe just a singe WIDE
would suffice instead of a WIDE7-7.

Whatever your path, talk to the other APRS users in your 'path inclusion
zone' - do they mind these objects? Is their presence helpful to them?
Do you get a lot of travelers in your ares? What do others in your area
feel would be helpful to these travelers? Are your locals planning on
loading up on SAMs to take your station out? Are there other ways (maybe
better?) to get that information out to the huddled masses? Maybe an
individual object can be 'assigned' to a ham. Each one following a set
of agreed on 'guidelines' for these objects - "share the wealth" in
other words. Idea is be creative and more importantly - inclusive. If
everyone's doing it - kinda hard to pick on any one ham.

I know that in some areas - a single, persisitan object will get the
local group to your front door in a matter of days, pitchforks and
torches in hand with chants of 'Burn the Monster'. In other ares - you'd
be luck and problobly down right tickled pink if anyone ever saw 'em at
all, let alone commented on 'em.

<RANT>
ANY APRS data that's persisitantly digipeated far and wide runs the risk
of becoming SPAM and a nuisance - especially if it goes outside it's
'useful zone'. We've a couple stations here that send telemetry data via
'enthusiastic' paths. These beacons go out 24x7 at quite short intevals.
I'm pretty durn sure that the folks in New Mexico, South Dahota, Idaho,
Arizona or Illinois don't give a rat's pattotie about some digipeater's
operational condition in another state. Let alone having those data
strings fed into their their local RF net so persistantly. It's down
right un-neighborly behavior sending stuff like that out.
</RANT>

Good luck!

I apologize for not finding the support page, I didn't know one existed. It
doesn't matter what kind of support you give, it is enough that you do. My
offer was made on the sig, perhaps you missed the message.

Again, my apologies.

Just put the two of them in your "delete filter".

Na, just one of 'em - the other actually has something to say now and
then worth reading.

Mostly 'then' as in redundancy, if you enjoy reading books several times

Subject: APRN Software Update
From: kb2scs@optonline.net
Date: Sat, 07 Feb 2004 22:27:50 -0500
X-Message-Number: 22

Hi All
There is a updated version of APRN software available at the following URL

http://www.qsl.net/kb2scs/

Automatic Picture Relay Network.

APRN is an idea of Bob's WB4APR.

Like all my software to date APRN is Freeware. No Charge of any kind.

It combineds APRS with SSTV. See the above URL for a description of
what APRN is.

Whats New:
APRN now uses an ini file. So now you only have to input the parameters
once. APRN though the aprn.in file will now remember them.

The format of the files that get uploaded to your web site are different.
APRN only uploads aprn.html, APRS screen shot.jpg and SSTV image file.

Now a client using your APRN web site can click on the link for the APRS
map where the SSTV image was taken. Or he or she can click on the SSTV link
instead.

Each one is opened in a separate web browser window.

APRN now supports a sub directory on your ftp site. So you can have all
your APRN images separated from your FTP root directory.

Thanks goes to Stephen WA8LMF for making these change requests.

If you have used APRN in the past and now want to have all the APRN files
in a sub directory on your web page then connect to your web page create a
sub directory and manually move the aprn.html file and all the APRS screen
shots and APRN SSTV image files to the sub directory.

The next time you run the APRN software enter the path to this sub
directory into the APRN software and your clients will have access to all
the old files as well as the new files that you create.

Enjoy

Let us hope we never witness the "Silence Of The Hams"

Don't know about the weather station, haven't played with it.

That should work OK. Depending on the APRS infrastructure in your area,
you might consider adding an amp down the line in case you get into a
bad area for Digipeater reception. Also, use a GOOD antenna. Aluminum
beats power under almost any circumstances.

Yes, at least in the United States.
