The symbol complies with the following :
PROTOCOL ON ROAD SIGNS AND SIGNALS
(Geneva, 19 September 1949)
Article 39
1. The sign "HOSPITAL" shall be used to indicate to the drivers of vehicles
that they should take the precautions required in the proximity of medical
establishments and, in particular, to refrain from making unnecessary noise.
2. Thsi sign shall consist of the symbol H above the word "Hospital" as
shown in diagram III, A.2.
3. The colour of the sign shall be blue and the insciption white.
4. The sign shall be placed facing the traffic.
Ironically, I don't think the US is a signatory to this protocol.
There are other signs used in various parts of the world that do not use the
Geneva signs.

Steve a while ago created a cgi that uses maps.aprsworld.net for mapping.
This is working. You can use it at:

Great on the maps, but the radar weather maps don't seem to be
there. Have to figure a way to get that going, too...

Hummm, seems to only work on Steve's call though.. I've tried using
other callsigns, and there seems to no maps returned!

We can work on radar... James, do you need a link to 1km NEXRAD images?

Or combinations of programs that do the individual tasks well like
aprsd and digi_ned.

Works fine for me using your call, shows you in the Chicago area.

although I am not seeing street labels.
James, can street labels be displayed?

Are you sure your server can handle this? I'm getting a lot of failed
attempts as I try different callsigns around the country. I don't remember
this happening when we first did this, could this be a load issue?
Last month there were 1.6M hits on find.cgi, each needing three maps, which
works out to an average load of 1.8 maps/second, peak loads could be three
times that, and there are other cgi's that generate additional load. Of
course, the code might eliminate the ones outside the US, (though really
that will not change the peak loads much, as the Europe peak load is when
the US is at its nadir).
I think these maps can be part of the long term solution, but we will need
more infrastructure, perhaps even a distributed APRS map server farm for a
long term solution. I envision something where each server is mirrored to
contain an up-to-date list of APRSdos, palmAPRS, GMT maps, GIF.PNG/JPG
maps, Jim's code, and anything else we can come up with to fill some holes.
I'm thinking a database which could, given a lat/lon, pick the best map to
fit the request, and using a caching mechanism for the CPU/IO intensive
maps, so repeat requests for the same map are without resource use.
Big, big job, anyone volunteering to put something like this together?

The issue is that I arbitrarly changed the format of the icon parameter.
This morning I created a little kludge that will make it work with the old
format - however I have a bug in it that I need to fix. (I had about 10
minutes between two exams).
Basically my caching is very aggresive. After the initial render it will
always come out of cache. Initial renders take a few seconds and cache
reads take a few milliseconds.
I don't know if the server will handle it. It's an ancient PIII machine
that the only thing going for it is a decent disk and lotsa memory. But I
have no problem with loading it down and seeing.

This is the bug, referenced above. It should now be fixed.

I believe that at least 1/3rd of those hits can be reduced by simply not
showing three maps on every page. If you look at aprsworld.net I show one
map and allow the user to zoom.
maps.aprsworld.net has data for outside of the US. It isn't street level,
but it is better than nothing - and in some cases it is something that can
be improved on.

You're describing a system quite similar to what I have and what any
internet based mapping system is. Standard GIS stuff, really.
