Hey Scott! Do you have the latest UI-View32? It now has a mouse-over
pop-up (I guess that's what you call it) in that you move your mouse over
an object and it pops up some detail. I see no reason why you'd need to
expand the symbol, however. Why would you need to see it twice and once at
an expanded size?

That's an interesting idea, but really necessary? I do not think so....as
the list is a very organized approach to a dog pile! Click on the pile and
the list appears, then pick and choose what you want. I may have no
interest in them all, only one.
I do admit that I do this often for several dog piles and then move the data
manually to various corners of the screen. Hmmmm maybe it is a good idea!
Optional, of course!

Good Points made in many of the recent postings...

I certainly do NOT advocate trying to get all this into one packet -
RATHER - that the client map display software needs to have this
information readily available in the view.

I like the way UIVIEW was described in Daron's posting... and I hope the
XASTIR folks can do the same in time (rah rah open source)... Bobs
earlier comment about people coming to the client display to get
situation awareness (the MC Marathon) is not to be taken lightly. And
if the client makes available more information about the
status/logistics of the stations on the map - more people will use the
client to get their information.

What does that all mean? Maybe it's as simple as linkage from the
symbol/icon on the screen - to a simple flat file database or even
spreadsheet... heck... even a simple flat text file. Packets that are
logistics only... (or other information feeds)... then update the
database/spreadsheet/flat file - automagically is better... but retyped
in is ok too... with date/time stamping of course !!! OTHER display
stations could feed data into the relevent database/spreadsheet/text
file... but at the map display - THE SINGLE COMMON PICTURE... moving the
mouse over the station... then the symbol/icon "explodes" to show
relevent data associated with the icon. Now that would be some good
stuff....

Looks like some good interaction on the topic !

I'm runing UI-View32 1.97 and I don't get anything when I mouse over a
station. Do I have to do something to enable that?

As for expanding the symbol, I agree it doesn't make sense with the
bitmapped icons. I'm talking about the tactical symbols like the UN ones
just mentioned or MIL-STD-2525B. You've got a symbol with modifiers that
tells you basic attributes of the object, plus text for things like
callsign, status, and so on positioned around it. As I picture it, mousing
over a dogpile would make the small icons explode out to the full symbols,
spacing themselves out as necessary, and indicating their real positions
with a line.

Yeah, even just having the detail windows pop up and auto-arrange around the
screen would be a plus.

Well, Yeah! Update to V1.99! That would be a good start!

If you plan on using a D700 as a stand alone DIGI for an event and will
be using WIDEn-N paths, the way to work properly in an APRS network on
144.39 is to not enable the UIFLOOD parameter for WIDEn-N
NOID digipeating.

Use UITRACE WIDE instead. It gives you everything you want in a WIDEn-N
digi:

1) It decremnts the N
2) It adds its own call to show that it was the source of data

It works perfectly that way...

Again, do not use UIFLOOD WIDE,NOID.

By the way, was this Balloon ever found over there in West VA?
Winter time is a lot easier to get through the woods. But maybe now the
snow is even worse...

YES! Upgrade to Ver 1.99 where that feature was introduced...

Ah. I saw the big heading for "V1.97 Downloads" and assumed that meant 1.97
was the latest version. I see the 1.99 update below that now. That ought
to be presented more clearly...

No, it has not yet been found... The steep slopes are the real problem (and
the winter only makes it worse).
