Is there an active mailing list for digi_ned? I've got it setup and
talking to my KPC-3 but now for the configuration....

Anyone have a simple digi_ned config suitable for APRS? And if it talked
to aprsd on a second port even better :)

Thanks,
Adi

Hi Adi,

I have this config running on PI1EHV-2, the APRS digipeater for Eindhoven
and surrounding. This is a Linux Slackware machine with kernel AX25 (SCC
Card) and digi_ned and aprsd running. So Digi_ned does the actual
digipeating and aprsd is used to gate the RF traffic to the internet.

The config I use is actually pretty easy, just create the ax25 kernel
interface like you would create any ax25 interface on Linux. Next
configure digi_ned and aprsd to use this interface as the radio port. So
both applications use the same ax25 device.

You can find more info (and the config file) on the configuration from
this digipeater on http://sharon.esrac.ele.tue.nl/users/pd0sbh

My understanding is that 5v to an ETrex will turn it into a handful of
junk...

And you are relying on what as the regulating element? The internal
resistance of your laptop power feed? What happens with different
batteries in your latop? What happens when the laptop is operated
on external power?

Yeah, sometimes you can get something like this to work, but you're risking
a lot for such little gain...

Has anyone written an APRS decoder as a COM / ActiveX /
whatever-they're-calling-it-this-month control?  Preferably in C/C++?

I need to get a copy of a reprint in the next day and can't find it
locally.

I'm looking for the article on the POCSAG encoder from the Feb 98 issue of
Electronics Now magazine.

Anyone have it in electronic format?

No, the assertion is: a station that moved once upon a time is a mobile. It
doesn't look at speed at all. The mobile station at the trafic light wasn't
there all day, when it drove up there it moved. As soon as Xastir detected
any movement of a station, Xastir permanenetly knows this station must be a
mobile station. The fact that a while later the same station waits for a
traffic light doesn't change that.

The only mobiles that are not shown as mobile are the ones that never moved
since Xastir started. This must be the mobiles in the parking lot (or when
Xastir was only running for a minute or so). As soon as de owner drives his
car arround the block, it is discovered as mobile, even when after that the
owner parks the vehicle for a few weeks (provided Xastir keeps running
during that time).

>I would ask that Xastir and anyone else that "selects" only on
>velocity, NOT CALL THAT MOBILE. Call it MOVING.

No, it selects on history, the fact if the station ever changed position
(as far as the program can know). That at some point in time the mobile
stopped doesn't matter, it is still mobile since it was seen moveing. The
"mobile" flag is "persistent", once a mobile is discoverd, it will be a
mobile until the station is discarded from memory due to inactivity.

>>Anyway, if it moves it must be mobile, this looks rather fail-safe to me.
>
>But if its MOBILE it may not be moving. I would avoid this ambiguity.
>In emergency work, it is important to know where your mobiles are, and

If it was ever seen moving in the past or present, it must be mobile, is
that a more carefully worded phrase?

I hope you see what I mean now.

Kind regards,

Henk.

There was one on BraveNet, but it apparently stopped. Remko, PE1MEW,
maintained the list but he has his hands full with this house since he is
moving. I mailed him a few times about the loss of Bravenet, but he has not
answered yet. It has been a while since I spoke him.

I think you can post on the APRSSIG, as long as DIGI_NED questions are very
low volume I don't think its a problem and it does fit the APRS charter.
The volume on the Bravenet list was very low anyway. I think more questions
and answers were provided on the APRSSIG in the past then on DIGI_NED's own
list anyway. There are several people on the list who can answer you, like
Max, PD0SHB, already did.

Kind regards,

Henk.
