FYI, the site Scott mentioned:
http://www.scantool.net/products.htm
appears to use the chip I mentioned in their hardware. This site appears to
be the center of the universe for OBD2 hackers. Should keep you busy for a
while. Windows and Perl source code also.

The new versions of APRSdos and APRSmax 860 to 863 have a BUG on
transmitting an OBJECT.
Once they see their own digipeated OBJECT, they overwrite it as a foreign
update and stop transmitting it. Thus only one good transmitssion gets
out (this is both good and bad). Ill fix it in a revision soon.
But if you are posting objects using this new code, remember you will
ahve to select it and re-uplink it in order to send it out more than once.
I heard of a big accident on I-95 at Mile Mark 153 on the news and posted
the WRECK icon for any travelers headed that way. That's when I noticed
it was only being transmitted ONCE (shows yellow), but then turned PURPLE
after seeing its own digipeated packet as if someone else was sending it.

Xastir doesn't look at the velocity field to determine a "mobile" station.
If I recall correctly, it stores the last known position in a data
structure. If Xastir recieves a position that is not the same as what it as
stored for a station, it begins to collect a list of positions (to draw the
track line) and only then counts that station as MOBILE.
We learned early on that you cannot trust the velocity field.

Bob,
1 - How big a matchbox? (external dims in mm)
2 - power budget?
3 - interface requirements
4 - totally internal or are surface points available (for mounting a
sensor of some type.

Hi Steve!
Hey, Thanks! This will resolve questions that pop up from time to time.
I do see one trouble still. If you look at:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/near.cgi?call=WA6OFT-10
You will now see WA6OFT-10 and WA6OFT-11, which are both compressed packets
showing as Igates.
However, you still do not see the O'ly (Overlay) which for both of these
stations is an 'S' to represent they are SatGates!
I am hoping that once this is resolved, the stations using the Sats will
honor Bob's requests for using compressed packets. In fact, this may
encourage all users of findu to turn on beacon compression!

The system does not display overlays and never has, for any character.
There is no easy way around this...I'd have to make 36 variations (or maybe
62, I forget if lower case overlays are allowed) for each of the 100 odd
symbols...

Since today is the first complaint I've heard about the icons in findU
being broken with compressed packets, I doubt that this has been any
impediment to the adoption of the compresed protocol...

Thanks. But I changed my quote above to match what I really meant, and
that is that MOBILE is a class of stations installed in vehicles that are
capable of MOBILE operation, it has nothing to do with whether that
station has MOVED or is in motion. Please do not call the "selection"
you have described as MOBILE. Call it MOVING, so that it doesnt confuse
everyone.
Thanks

Answers above in brackets. By the way, N1VG has already identified an
off-the-shelf answer to the text-to-speech idea. We will order one
on monday!

I think is has, Steve. A little bit at least! People in very recent
history have asked why they are not displaying correctly on findu.
They assume that findu is the standard of standards (so-to-speak)....with
good reason, because it is so very popular.
I would think it appropriate that it displayed correctly in all
circumstances...but that is totally your call! Personally, I don't care one
way or the other...I merely pointed it , not as a complaint, but as
information for the other fellow. I did not know you were not aware of it.
APRSWORLD has problems too! But I suppose nobody has pointed them out.
If you look at :
http://db.aprsworld.net/datamart/switch.php?call=wa6oft-11&table=position&maps=s
ye
The station shows up as a Dish and not a Satgate, yet a Dish and an Igate
are not the same in the spec.
So, what has been suggested, which I totally disagree with, is to turn off
compression. I am of the understanding that other software does not handle
compression well at all, not for the same reason you fixed today. I do not
know which ones they are.
