Just a quick question for y'all:

Has any one ever seen a GPS engine/antenna combo that will accomadate an
NMO mount, while still allowing the mount to be used on the same radio's
antenna? I saw one on a Franklin County Sheriff's car the other day and
I like the idea of one hole for 2 uses.

You must include javAPRS on this list, it does not accept it!

Please re-read my post earlier...you must also check

Just looked at the source code for xastir:

        ok = (int)(ok && my_data[4]=='.' && my_data[14]=='.'
                    && (my_data[7] =='N' || my_data[7] =='S')
                    && (my_data[17]=='W' || my_data[17]=='E'));

So add xastir to the incompatible list, it will reject the lower case
character packets entirely.

Most of the major commercial manufacturers make GPS NMO mounts antennas.
Take a look at the Radiall, Maxrad, Antenex web sites.

You might also just Google "GPS NMO Mount"

I'm not sure this is a good assumption given the evidence I collect on
my daily commute...

I have never seen an NMO engine, because it can't be done. NMO has 2
lines a center conductor and a braid, while the engine would need a
minimum of 3 or more lines, +, -, and data.

I use a Antennex 26 db NMO antenna which has worked flawlessly. It comes
in white or black and can be painted to suit. Wholesale price is about
$xx, I do not know about retail.

Be advised that some antennas may appear to be NMO while they are not.
Some of these use a 3/8 hole for a small threaded pipe and nut. It is
this pipe that mounts the antenna and is the pass through for the
multi-conductor cable if it is a engine.

I saw one of these a few years ago in an Antenna Specialist product book.
It was just a small piece of metal with two holes in it for the two NMO
mounts. It could be easily made at home if you could come up with the
stock.

I also saw a combination antenna for a GPS and VHF radio. It had a VHF whip
antenna mounted on top of the GPS antenna. Pretty slick and looked like a
perfect APRS tracker antenna.

Pardon my ignorance but does this system have some way to know this
information or would it be up to the operator to somehow "login" and
"logout" to tell the system that they are at their console one minute, but
not the next? If they forget to logout, wouldn't that be 'bad', especially
if you are counting on someone being there in an emergency?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, it's just that I'm told that bad data
is worse than no data.

The VHF and GPS antenna combo kit is made by Antenna Specialists and also I
believe Larsen. There are also kits for UHF and 800 MHz I believe. I do not
know if the Dual Antenna kit though is NMO mount, I think it is something
else.

OK, it could be optional. You can enable it or not.

For now, APRSdos determines "mobiles" by SYMBOL. But someday when I have
the time, I want to put a 10 minute tag on each one so I can keep track
of speed. Then my display of "JUST MOVING" will display only those
mobiles that have been moving within the last 10 minutes. For now, I
cannot use the SPEED field for such a determination, because many
commuters have a speed of 0 half the time...<grin>

APRSSIG,

My Email address is being spoofed by a VIRUS hacker. It is not coming
from my machine, but by someone spoofing my Email Address. SO ignore it.
I am not the only one on this list that has been attacked. I have
received similar spoofed virusus from others...
