I often use the little browser in my Sprint Vision cell phone to confirm
my location is correctly reporting in Findu. I used this while walking
around on a business trip with my d7a and GPS two days ago.
I suppose you could do this easily with the Handspring Treo 600 and a GPS.
At last years CTIA show in Las Vegas, someone was showing a childrens
watch with GPS and GSM that allowed a parent to monitor the location of
their child.

I have not really looked beyond my local 32 mile range scale in a few
years, but now with my new copy of APRSmax, I can now see most everyone in
the area.
Monitoring over the weekend I captured almost 100 diffferent APRS mobiles
on my 128 mile range scale.. And the percentage still is about 90%
Kenwoods... I live 10 mi from Baltimore and 30 miles from DC.
This number of almost 100 mobiles is surprisingly large since the capacity
of APRSmax is only 320 stations...

Bob... I haven't tried it yet, but there is one APRSDOS glitch/feature that
has been around forever:
When you do FILE-REPLAY (or OPS-REPLAY) and enter a particular callsign,
then you (or maybe it's just me) can never get back to the default "ALL"
and show all the tracks. I've tried ESC, SPACE, BACKSPACE, to no avail. Am
I doing something wrong or is there a workaround?

the most common way is to buy High Band pagers and rechannel them for 2m

I am planning on putting up a system on 440 MHz (444.9) to be exact. I
found a guy that can take my Motorola advisor pagers and put them on there
for $xx each.
Slightly off topic. I was trying to test out my paging transmitters with
my 9612's and couldn't get them to receive. They RCV light wouldn't even
come on. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Hi Reid...
There was a guy on QRZ.com that had a bunch of pagers that he was GIVING
AWAY after he could not find anyone that actually wanted to buy them... I
did not pay attention to him since pagers a dead issue since cell phones
have the ability to text message.
I do not know if the pagers were high band or uhf... but they are pretty
easy to rechannel.
Depends on the scope of the project, but if it is large enough, you might
consider some Ramsey test gear that they made to service pagers. I also have
not paid this much attention - I got out of the radio business long ago.
You know, if you are 501c3, you might try a paging company, maybe Arch...
they have been changing out the Motorola pagers and giving us some pager
made in China or Singapore.. just maybe, they might provide surplus pagers
to a worthy group. Probably cost less to buy an Pac-rim pager than to pay
for Motorola parts?
